Within a week, a Sunday Church School program was organized with 24 students and teachers. It was felt that this mission congregation could serve the growing population on the east side of Kitchener, and it did grow.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align);\">On September 8, 1940, St. Luke\u2019s was formally organized. Rev. The groundbreaking service was held in June 1941, with the dedication of the new church that could seat 140 members in November of that same year. By its 10th anniversary, the congregation\u2019s membership had grown to 347 baptized members.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">By February 1955, the membership had grown so large that the Sunday School classes were held at Sunnyside Public School. With the congregation continuing to outgrow its current facility, construction of the current church on Franklin Street began. On November 11, 1962, the last service was held at the King Street location. On March 31, 1963, the original 1941 cornerstone and the 1963 cornerstone were laid at the new church. On May 1, 1963, the new building of St. Luke\u2019s was dedicated.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d4908ab e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"d4908ab\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e95f94a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e95f94a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the congregation continued to grow, thoughts turned to an addition to the current church building, which included a fellowship hall.
